In support of the performance-based funding initiative deployed in Burundi, the project pursues the following objective:
(1) to strengthen national capacities for initial and continuing training in the field of SRHR;
(2) to foster steering and coordination at the intra-sectoral, cross-sectoral and regional levels in this area
(3) the development and quality assurance of inclusive and integrated SRHR services focused on improving access for disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.
The project was carried out with two academic institutions: the Université Libre de Bruxelles and Burundi’s National Institute of Public Health. Based on the positive experiences of GIZ in Guinea and Mali with their approach to improve the health system «Quality competition», many activities have been carried out: workshops, mentoring, scientific support and capitalization, monitoring and evaluation system developed and implemented, training of the different actors (project team, national and regional teams, local and departmental teams, academic institution), Additionally, support was given to the cross-cutting training approach in synergy with the civil society component of the GIZ initiative.
