The overall objective of the project was to support and improve the development of the pilot project for the postdoctoral program in family medicine (FM) at UES and Saldaña Hospital, whose cornerstone is the national family health program. The objectives of the project are as follows:
– To develop and increase the number of family medicine professors
– To revise the objectives of the pilot Family Medicine training program so that it corresponds more closely to the profile we hope to find in every Salvadoran family doctor
– Transfer teaching facilities from Hospital Saldaña to the health units of San Jacinto (urban) and San Tomas (rural) to increase presence in the community setting, in addition to developing front-line health care
Train a family medicine specialist who will work in collaboration with other health professionals (nurses, health promoters, social workers, sociologists, public health physicians) in the Family Health Unit, as planned by the National Family Health Program

– Finally, develop a teaching model that can be quickly transferred to other SIBASIs and teaching institutions to ensure the viability and sustainability of the project.
The project is carried out in partnership with the UdeM Department of Family Medicine, UES, the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) and the Integrated Basic Health System of the South (SIBASI Sur).
