Description

The project aimed to implement a mother-to-child transmission prevention (PMTCT) program, counselling services, voluntary and anonymous HIV testing (CDVA), psychosocial support for people living with HIV and effective sexually transmitted infection management services. The strategy adopted combined training of health services human resources for quality management of sexually transmitted infections, and training of human resources in health services and civil society organizations to provide services for people living with HIV. The objective was to ensure better control of HIV and STIs through primary health service networks in the Kankan region, prioritizing high-risk groups and moving towards self-financing. The project included the underserved Kankan region with the following objectives: (1) Support for STI management in public health facilities; (2) Support for implementation of activities to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV; (3) Support for the implementation of voluntary and anonymous HIV counselling and testing (CDVA); (4) support to ensure the safety of blood transfusion performed at the regional hospital; and (5) support for medical-psycho-social of people on ART. (6) Provide training and supervision of health personnel and monitoring of basic surveillance epidemiological data.
