The project aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality in the Grande Anse and South departments of Haiti. The following areas of intervention are targeted: institutional and community health strengthening, reducing the burden of disease, improving nutrition and accountability for results. USI is making a concrete contribution to improving the provision of essential obstetric and pediatric care and services by the 10 health centers in the 7 target communes in the Grand’Anse and Sud departments of Haiti. More specifically, USI contributes to: – Carrying out research into the barriers to the use of prenatal, natal and postnatal health services; – Identifying the skills and resources available and lacking in the health centers; – Providing ongoing training for health center staff based on identified needs; – Developing algorithms for prenatal, perinatal and postnatal monitoring; – Carrying out joint supervision and quality of care assessment visits by health staff with the relevant authorities.
