Description

The objective of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of the GESTA international program in terms of reducing maternal mortality in reference hospitals in Senegal (20) and Mali (20). Based on available data, the GESTA program (management of labor and delivery) is based on a combination of two approaches to improve performance (continuing training in clinical settings and audits of maternal deaths with feedback) had a potential but not yet demonstrated effectiveness in improving maternal and perinatal prognosis in low-resource countries. Other research questions were related to efficiency in relation to improved resources, organization of care, medical practices and health worker satisfaction. An economic analysis was required to measure the cost-effectiveness of the intervention and to verify whether this strategy is well suited to the context of low-resource countries.
